Birdsmith Consulting (Ecological Research) is dedicated to bringing the best available science and planning to ocean conservation, planning and management. Using a science-based and rights-based approach, Birdsmith works with partners to provide more than 25 years of experience for issues of scientific, conservation and management importance.
Birdsmith was formed in 1995 and the original focus was studying seabirds in the Northeast Pacific Ocean in support of the Canadian government for endangered species conservation and management. The consulting company’s portfolio grew to include old-growth forest research in coastal British Columbia and then to national and international science, policy, resource management and governance topics.
Birdsmith supports marine spatial planning (MSP), marine protected areas (MPA), ecosystem-based management (EBM), ocean conservation, endangered species legislation, fisheries management, marine outreach and education, and national or international policy to increase stewardship and sustainable development of marine ecosystems in all oceans.
