In 2002 and again in 2006, I worked with Jake Fraser to develop two colour, laminated species guides for seabirds most likely to interact with commercial fisheries in BC and Alaska. Production of these guides was supported by the Canadian Wildlife Service (‘Pacific Coastal Birds’) and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (‘Alaskan Seabirds’). The purpose of the guides was to provide an identification tool to minimise or avoid interactions with these species during commercial fishing in the gillnet and longline fisheries in the Gulf of Alaska, Bering Sea, and Canada’s Pacific Coast.
Both guides had a production run of over 1,000 copies and a wide distribution to over 500 active license holders in BC and Alaska.
Please contact me for more information, or for a copy of the guides.
